Overview:
In a recent discussion with the Institute for Economic Development and Research at the University of Tehran, renowned Iranian economist Hashem Pesaran assessed Iran’s monetary and exchange rate policy landscape and examined the influence of sanctions on these policies. Pesaran stressed that economic reforms should not be postponed in anticipation of sanctions being lifted; instead, reforms must proceed under the assumption that sanctions will persist.

He also addressed some of the challenges facing economists in the age of machine learning, noting that algorithms will not replace human experts but will remain valuable complements to their work.
